Public Health Emergency Preparedness

To lessen the effects of all-hazards emergencies, the Hamilton County Health Department (HCHD) is engaged in pre-planning and coordination with private and public sector agencies. All staff members participate in National Incident Management System/Incident Command System (NIMS/ICS) trainings and exercises to transition daily programs into appropriate Centers for Disease Control and Prevention preparedness capabilities.

Our mission is to safeguard the health and lives of residents, businesses and partner agencies, and to prepare for and respond to public health threats by providing direction, coordination and support through an all-hazards approach.

The Preparedness division is staffed by a county-funded full-time Health Emergency Preparedness Coordinator and a grant-funded part time Assistant Coordinator/Volunteer Coordinator. The Department hosts paid and unpaid internship/contractor positions throughout the year to provide hands-on education and experience to prospective emergency management and preparedness career seekers.
