Applications are being accepted for the fall 2017 Academy (September - November). Classes typically meet on Thursday nights from 6:30-9:30p.m.
The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office Citizens Academy is a unique opportunity to learn first hand how the Sheriff's Office functions and to experience some of the training offered to deputies. The Citizens Academy is designed to promote positive community relations and to provide communications between citizens and law enforcement officials.
The Academy training covers many of the topics taught to new deputies, including:
Impaired driving enforcement
And much more
Most sessions will consist of classroom discussions along with demonstrations and hands-on practical experiences so participants better understand the many roles and functions of the Sheriff's Office. Academy participants will also be offered opportunities to go on a "ride-along" with a deputy on service patrol as well as to observe the jail staff in action.
The Citizens Academy runs for 11 weeks with instruction provided by members of the Sheriff's Office who are qualified in each area of expertise. After completion of the Academy, participants will receive a certificate during a graduation ceremony.
The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office Citizens Academy is not designed to, nor will it in any way, bestow law enforcement authority upon participants.
