The Sheriff's Office provides various law enforcement services; manages the county jail and its prisoners; serves protective orders and warrants; collects delinquent state income taxes; executes the sale of certain properties (Sheriff's Sales); conveys persons committed to certain state institutions; and executes the orders of the County Council and the Board of County Commissioners.
