The Courthouse Square in downtown Noblesville is the new (temporary) home for a 5-foot-tall fiberglass bison painted by Hamilton County artists in honor of Indiana’s bicentennial.
Part of the statewide
Bison-tennial Public Art Project, the artistic animal arrived Aug. 31 after a
summer tour that included appearances at the Hamilton County 4-H Fair and the Indiana State Fair. It will remain on county-owned property near the Historic Jail, visible from Conner Street, until being set out to pasture at Noblesville’s new Federal Hill Park in mid-October.
The piece was designed by artists from mobile art studio Caravan Classes thanks to a grant from LINK Advisory Council, a program of Legacy Fund, the community foundation for Hamilton County. It features 29 iconic Hamilton County symbols—including the Historic Courthouse—and a herd of polka-dot fingerprints.
Indiana is celebrating its 200th birthday this year.
