Wetland Ecology Hike with Community Herbalist Greg Monzel

Saturday, April 24, 2021

Wetlands are critical habitats that humans and diverse species rely upon for survival. We will hike to less travelled areas to appreciate the plants, animals, and environmental services of wetlands. Our guide will highlight ethnobotanical uses of plants in the wetlands, and hopefully spot a morel mushroom or three. Hiking conditions will be rugged, including some steep terrain, muddy soils and off-trail access. Greg Monzel is a community herbalist and foraging instructor connecting people and plants at Wild Persimmon School of Wellness in southeastern Indianapolis. Greg maintains an herbal health consultation practice and handmade product line in addition to teaching local and regional plant skills workshops. He is also a trained permaculturist, third generation organic gardener, and father, inspired by the wisdom of nature and guided by insight developed through his personal experience in the field.
