Nature Myths - Fact or Fiction
It can be hard to know what is fact and what is fiction in the nature world, when many of us have heard many “do’s and don’ts” regarding animals through the year. We will sort through old wives’ tales and sound ecological advice. A naturalist will explain the science and comedy behind some of the most common nature myths, including whether owls can turn their heads all the way around, if you can spread poison ivy by touching it, and if parent birds will abandon their young if they are touched by a human.
Date: Tuesday, November 16
 Time: 6:30 pm

 Indiana’s Most Beautiful Birds
Subjectivity aside, we will spend the evening looking at photos and learning about some of Indiana’s most beautiful birds. Several are migratory and not with us in the cold months, but that makes learning about them and longing for their return even more important! Several though, can be found in Indiana year-round. Join us as we present a “Top 10 List” of Indiana’s most beautiful birds, and then add several more to the list because picking ten is an impossible task!
Date: Tuesday, December 14
Time: 6:30 pm

Owls of Indiana
Winter is a wonderful time to study and observe owls. Our January program will explore the various species of owls that can be found in Indiana. Taxidermy owls will be on display for closer examination and the presenter will share facts and life history of these amazing predators!
Date: Tuesday, January 18
Time: 6:30 pm

Great Blue Herons
As winter breaks its hold on us, the birds are beginning to transition into the breeding season. Great Blue Herons start returning to their nesting areas, called rookeries, in late winter and early spring. In this program we will take a deep dive into the life history and habits of Great Blue Herons and spotlight how Hamilton County Parks acquired to protect the Rookery Preserve. Located in Arcadia, more than fifty Great Blue Heron nests have been identified at the site.
