The National Weather Service is forecasting possible weak funnel clouds for today, June 9, and Thursday, June 10. If the funnel cloud were to reach the ground, it is typically a very brief and weak tornado only lasting a few seconds. Detection with radar is difficult with this type of phenomenon. The tornadoes often dissipate within seconds, making it nearly impossible for the National Weather Service to issue a tornado warning. A Special Weather Statement might be issued in these situations. HCEM and our team of trained weather spotters will be on the lookout for any signs of rotation and will pass it along to the National Weather Service.
