[ARCHIVED] Water Recreation - Be Informed & Be Healthy

Recreational Water Season has begun!!!

Water recreation activity is the highlight of summer.   The Hamilton County Health Department samples 19 recreational locations monthly from April – October.  The sample information gathered is provided as a public service, which will vary with environmental factors like precipitation.  Regardless of the bacterial count or result description of satisfactory or unsatisfactory, the public health message is always the same.

  • When recreating in any untreated water, anywhere, individuals should wash their hands or shower afterwards.

The department has worked during the winter to improve public education through our recreational website and by posting interactive signs at or near sampling locations.   These signs use universal messaging symbols to promote self-responsibility to use good hygiene after contacting untreated natural bodies of water.

Please learn more about Water Recreation Program sampling parameters, from there individuals can navigate to our offsite database link of individual location sampling data.   We encourage everyone to monitor local and state media sites, make your own personal decisions and practice good hygiene as they interact with any untreated waters.
