Steve Schwartz

County Council
Title: District 3 County Council Member
County Council member Steve Schwartz

Steve Schwartz was elected to the Hamilton County Councilors in 2002. He represents District 3 which includes Noblesville, Jackson, and White River Townships.

Schwartz was born in Indianapolis, but grew up in Georgia and Kansas. After graduating high school, he returned to Noblesville where he opened Schwartz’s Bait & Tackle with his father. Schwartz and his wife Lori now also sell propane and rent U-Hauls and motor homes.

Schwartz’s interest in politics began in 1999, shortly after the West Fork of the White River experienced a massive fish kill. The kill affected an estimated 4.6 million fish within 50 miles, ultimately threatening Schwartz’s livelihood. He and friends headed up a fundraising effort and worked with the Department of Natural Resources to rehabilitate and restock the White River. Schwartz ran for County Council three years later. Since then, he has been instrumental in creating more than $50 million in surplus and rainy day funds for the County while maintaining one of the state’s lowest county tax rates. Schwartz is also proud of the many road and bridge projects the Council has helped finance.

Schwartz has been married for 38 years. He and Lori have two grown sons and a five-year old granddaughter. When he’s not working, Schwartz loves to read, travel, and spend time with family and friends.
